To participate in political elections, you must be registered on the electoral lists.

Registration

Registration is automatic for 18-year-olds (under certain conditions), as well as for people obtaining French nationality after 2018.

Proxy voting

An absent voter on the day of an election (municipal, departmental, regional, legislative, presidential, ...) or a referendum, can vote by proxy.

An absent voter chooses someone to vote on their behalf. This person must vote according to the instructions given by the absent voter. The absent voter must arrange for the proxy vote to be completed as soon as possible.
